Chewin Tobacco

Old Joe lying on the couch chewing tobacco
coffee can on the floor beside him
Watching the news, raving
about Blacks, Jews, and liberals
how they're ruining this country
Using ignorance like a club
he beats everyone, one group at a time
Another foul smelling wad emerges
dropped into the coffee can with a grimace
talks about a history that never was
obvious to him, no one else
Reaching into his pocket, clump of leaves
chewing into it, grazing quietly
silence, peace till it tucks
into the pouch of his mouth
to spew out later
